Wildwood Flower, by Loretta Lynn (covering The Carter Family)

I’ve been trying to teach myself guitar in my spare time (ha!) lately, and I started by looking to old country songs, figuring they’d be easy to master.  Well, surprise! They’re not easy.  Those people were crazy talented.  My favorite is The Carter Family, especially songs by Maybelle Carter.  I love love love Maybelle’s thumb-brush picking style.  She picks out a melody and strums simultaneously. Very cool.  You don’t really hear that anymore. Makes me want to learn the autoharp (which is used in this song), if only to become that chick at parties that whips out her autoharp during any natural lull in conversation to play sad songs about potato blights and unrequited love.  You know the type.
